Zwei Wochen unter einem Dach / Living together

We spent our two weeks together at the Christian Brothers' Centre in Stellenbosch.

The girls and boys had separate rooms, but this didn't stop us from becoming one group. At first it was really difficult that we were having to share a dormitory with other people that I didn't even know, but after a few days I got used to it and started becoming comfortable. Living together is a great opportunity to get to know your partner.

We basically did everything together, from eating to sleeping or playing games outside and late night talks until midnight. It started to become a place where we could speak about anything. I've never shared a room with so many people before, so it was a little bit uncomfortable for me at first, because you never had your private space, but in these past two weeks, living in a place like this together was very fun and I enjoyed it a lot. We played drama together and practiced our lines whenever we had the chance to.

After a long and exhausting day, we were always in our room and still laughing, singing, dancing and just having fun despite of being tired. We sometimes sat together and talked until late at night and forgot about time, because whenever we were together I felt so happy and filled with so much joy. I wished this time would never end.

Living together made us grow closer, not only the South African students with the German students but also amongst our own group. You never feel lonely because you always have people around you, who always fill the whole room with so much positivity.

We got used to seeing the sandpit outside, the sound of people showering and the sound of people talking. I realized how much I really missed it when I got back to the routine of being by myself. Something was missing. This camp has brought us together and it will always be a reminder of what we have accomplished. I am proud to have been part of this opportunity and learning all I have and living in a beautiful place like this so it is kind of a disappointment that our two weeks together have passed.
