DAY 3: MONDAY, 3 APRIL 2017- TASMIN ANDREWS: rehearsals start

Our first class in Drama and Physical Theatre, presented by Mrs Markram, Mr Blum and Mr Rudolph.  This was the reason why we came on this camp – to learn more about Drama and to improve our skills.  Our teachers really pushed us to our limits and in the process got some good responses in acting and movement improvisations. Suddenly, there was no difference between us anymore as we all had to do the exercises and stretch our imagination.

It is a great privilege for any artist to work with other artists from different cultures and social backgrounds.  Here we were, at this beautiful facility and here we have this opportunity to see how others tell their stories.  The classes were well balanced, difficult exercises were alternated with some fun exercises and the teachers also shifted the venue from inside to outside on a regular basis which of course added to us staying focussed and looking for new ways to express ourselves. The much-deserved tea breaks in between were also well planned as we could chat with each other and some of us even rehearsed pair work.  This just shows how dedicated we were to make this camp a success.

We were very excited to show our pieces on Migration, which we have compiled separately, to each other and we waited in anticipation. The evening really turned out to be spectacular as both groups’ pieces were very moving.  Monday ended on a high and we were so inspired to continue with this project as we have managed to, between the two schools, create so many scenes we could use for our collaborative play.  I just felt sorry for our teachers as they had to make the selection but we trusted their judgement and knew that they would come up with a great play.
